Defaults for browser skins, email digest skin, calendar settings, logos
and sidebar entries are set here. There are many settings, so this help
topic focuses on the few that are most important.
Default Browser Specific Preferences
Default Skin - Earth Skin
In this section, you set the default Skin that is seen when a Visitor
or new user first sees Traction. Note that each user can change their
own skin preference in Personal Preferences.
Traction ships with a number of Traction Skins,
each suited for a different user level and preferences. There is also
a skin, Simple, for
mobile devices or PDA's. We recommend that, you start with the Earth
skin because (a) It makes Traction features and navigation the
most obvious, (b) is the skin featured in the User Guide (c) it is Internationalized
and (d) it is based directly on the 3col skin which can be customized
via CSS and minor changes can be made through browser forms.
CSS Flexibility and Blog Style - 2col and 3col Skins
If you are exposing Traction to the outside world, desire a look or
function more akin to personal weblogs which you may have seen, or want
to customize the look and feel of Traction, you may prefer the Earth skin,
which is the 3col skin with fixed settings. So, Earth is simply a property
file specifying the 3col skin with the:
Default "Earth Tones" Theme style sheet
Show projects with Zero Activity (Yes)
Show labels with Zero activity (No)
Use Sections (Yes) selected
The 2col (2 Column) and 3col (3 Column) skins are front ended
by CSS style sheets, so you can easily change the look and feel without
needing to learn our Skin Definition Language.
With exception of the Time Zone
and Show Trackbacks with Comments
setting, we do not recommend adjusting any of the Default
User Preferences. The Show Trackbacks
with Comments setting is described further in Trackback InboundSetup.
Note: Many of these preferences
only apply to the Modern skin.
Time Zone
The Time Zone setting here
sets the default time zone for all users. Simply select your default time
zone here. Each user can override the setting in Personal Preferences.
Default Project Preferences
In this section you can set a default: logo, timeslice, email reply
subject and name, sidebar entry, and project newspage section setup. You
can override all of these settings within each project's setup forms.
Default Logo
In this section, you can browse for and add a logo to replace the Traction
logo that appears at the top left corner of the Basic skin (location of
the logo, like many things, may change based on the skin choice). Your
choice here is the logo that will appear on the Front
page, as well as all project newspages
that do not specify otherwise in Project Setup.
First, you must add the Logo, click + and Apply. Then, you can select
the Project Logo Image from the drop down.
Logo Size: The logo should be
maximum 101 pixels wide and 28 pixels high.
Default Time Slice
The default timeslice is set
here for the Front page, and will become the default for all projects,
unless specified otherwise in Project Setup. It is recommended to start
with a wide time period (like quarter). If a particular project becomes
very busy, or the server as a whole becomes busy, then narrow the timeslice to month or week.
Override Email Reply (Subject and From Address)
These sections are rarely implemented at the server level. See the corresponding
Override Email Reply section in Project Setup help to learn more.
Sidebar Entry
The sidebar entry points to a Traction article which you want to appear
in the sidebar. The selected article will appear in the sidebar of the
Front page, and will become the default for all project sidebars, unless
specified otherwise in Project Setup.
The sidebar (generally) functions as a navigational
aid, so the contents of the article might be a list with Rapid Selector
links to popular lookups (i.e. everything with the Weblog
and Report labels, or everything
with the ToDo and Feature
labels), other parts of your intranet, other websites, and so forth.
The ProductAlpha56 article text is written with Traction's Rapid Selector
language. ProductAlpha Sidebar Example
Newspage Sections
If you uncheck Use Default Sections
a section
editing interface appears. Here you can specify the contents and behavior
of the project newspage sections. Click here to review the section editing
interface. Review the Space Templates help topic
to learn about the default templates. Read the Changing Front Page and Newspage Section Layouts help topic to learn how to
add, edit, or remove sections.
