Title: RE: reading list for alex

It's called Java Performance and Scalability, Vol 1. Arnold & Gosling sounds good -- or the equivalent O'Reilly book. I never really liked the original books published by Java, but I think they've gotten much better since I looked at them (~ 5 years). I guess what he should read depends partly on what we plan to have him do (at least to start). If we anticipate him doing some interface stuff, understanding http, servlets, cookies, javascript would be a bonus -- I can't think of anything in particular that he should read. Even if he's not doing interface stuff, it would be helpful to understand the server, the state issues involved, etc. (Sorry I'm not just giving you an ISBN -- I think I learned this stuff from a combination of Servlets, HTML 4, the Javascript book, and you). I think that's it.

Andy - what's the title of the book you're sending up?

Greg thought we should also hand over a copy of

The Java Programming Language, Arnold & Gosling

Alex has the patterns book.

Any other ideas?
