Title: Windows Client Security Settings

Enabling Easy Editing

When you click a Microsoft Office attachment's Edit button, e.g.:

You may see an error dialog like this:

:

Clicking the OK button in the error dialog will take you to this help page. You can follow the following instructions to enable the Easy Edit feature for attachments:

In Internet Explorer, go to the Internet Options window.

Then click on and then on the button. Next click the button.

If your Traction server does not run https, un-check the checkbox at the bottom of the window:

Then type the address of your Traction server, and click Add:

The window should look like this, with your server's address listed:

Press OK.

At this point, if you were to press the edit button, you would see this dialog; clicking Yes would open the file in edit mode.

To prevent this dialog from appearing, follow these additional instructions.

From the Internet Security Options for Trusted Sites panel (where you just were):

Click the button. This will take you to the Security Settings window:

Change the setting Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Enable. Note: you are changing this setting only for trusted sites.

Press OK and close the Internet Options window. You should now be able to edit without any warning messages from Internet Explorer.

If you would like to edit directly inside Internet Explorer instead of launching the Office application, see the help topic Getting Office Documents to Open for Editing in Internet Explorer.
