Title: Attivio Search System Requirements

Attvio's Active Intelligence Engine™ (AIE) is designed to scale up to handle very large solutions such as email archives containing hundreds of millions of records as well as scaling down to run on a normal developer's laptop. While our minimum and recommended hardware specification reflect these possibilities, it is important to consider the size and complexity of your development or production system when choosing hardware. For instance, a standard 32 bit laptop is not a good system to prototype a large production system on as certain features may require more resources that the test system has. If you have any questions about hardware please feel free to contact support@tractionsoftware.com for help in properly sizing your hardware to meet your application requirements.

  • On both Linux and Solaris, you must have at least 5GB free in /opt during installation in order to run the installer, regardless of where you ultimately choose to install the software.
  • On Windows systems, you must have at least 5GB free on C: during installation in order to run the installer, regardless of where you ultimately choose to install the software.
  • If installing AIE on a Linux platform, ensure that SELinux has been disabled or put into permissive mode.
  • If installing on Solaris please see install the kernel update from May 2009 "Kernel version: SunOS 5.10 Generic_139556-08, Solaris 10 5/09 s10x_u7wos_08 X86"
  • If installing on 64-bit Debian Linux, please make sure that the ia32-libs package which includes the lib32stdc++6 package is installed. This is required for text extraction.

Production System

Attivio recommends the following configurations for production use:

Requirement Minimum Configuration Recommended Configuration
Operating system 64-bit Windows 2008 Server
32-bit or 64-bit Windows 2003 Server
32-bit or 64-bit Red Hat Linux (version 4 or 5)
32-bit or 64-bit Debian version 5
64-bit Solaris X86
64-bit architecture
CPU Dual-core
Quad-core (2 dual-core CPUs or equivalent)
RAM 4 GB 8 GB or more
Disk space Based on indexed content and enabled features Based on indexed content and enabled features
Storage n/a
High performance direct-attached disk or SAS-based SAN
Network connection n/a
Gigabit (if using multiple nodes)
Locale For Linux or Solaris, the en_US.UTF-8 encoding must be installed For Linux or Solaris, the en_US.UTF-8 encoding must be installed
Web browser
(Admin GUI, SSUI)
Firefox 3+, IE 7+, Safari 4+, Chrome 2+ Firefox 3+, IE 7+, Safari 4+, Chrome 2+

32 bit systems and machines with limited memory should only be used in production environments with small indexes and very light query load. In addition, certain content types and/or modules such as binary file formats and text extraction require more memory than a baseline system.

Antivirus and Firewall Recommendations

Generally, it is recommended that no Antivirus or Firewall software be running on the AIE server nodes as this may adversely affect execution and performance.

If Antivirus software is running on AIE server nodes, it should be configured to ignore the running AIE server processes and avoid scanning the AIE application
and data directories.

If Firewall software is running on AIE server nodes, it must open all HTTP ports configured for the running AIE server.

Network Ports

Network ports 17000-17008 must be available and open for incoming connections from Traction.
